Clip to ScrapBook
I've done an activity where the children draw anything that comes into mind while I read. You can read a particularly descriptive excert from a chapter book (I've used Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) or you can read an unfamiliar picture book without showing the pictures. Then you can compare the different points of view within the class and then compare their pictures with the actual pictures in the book. This is a nice, calming, quiet activity and kids love to draw. I've also done this with classical music and it was a good way to introduce warm/cool colours and how music can create a mood.
