Clip to ScrapBook
One thing our art teacher does is tries to correlate the project to our unit of the week. For example, if we're studying pond life, bears, or deserts, she tries to incorporate something along those lines. I agree that young
children need to be exposed to a wide variety of techniques and mediums... Let them get in there and explore freely! I think a lot of problems start to come in when the adult does too much modeling (as is the case in our school.) Art should be about free expression-- i think the art teacher should have a 'loose project' that can turn out in many ways depending on the artist! I know this
probably doesn't help you much, but maybe if you do try to incorportate the theme of the teachers at least there'll be a little more direction when you're experimenting with a variety of techniques. Good Luck!
