I have used their shoes. Also a bag of dried beans from one of those fifteen bean soup bags.
buttons as you said are nicd and you can have them paste button shapes onto a construction paper sheet to assess their comprehansion
of the activity. ( We have a sheet of drawn button shapes that we use for this at school, round buttons , big buttons, various numbers of holes, square buttons, scalloped buttons..We have the kids color them ,cut them out and paste them onto construction paper folded in half. Then state their sorting rule and write it onto the paper, or we script it for them...Good for your assessment
files)My kids also love using seashells. I found selections of them in baskets at Dollar Tree several years ago and purchased 2-3. You have various shapes, colors, sizes, textures etc.
