oops! didn't respond to all of your question. I have my kids keep a reading log in a specific folder, this is their "ticket to take a test" the most essential part of using AR effectively in the classroom is that you need
to go over the TOPS report with each student after a test is taken, I have kids put them on my desk (certain area) and then before they choose another book I discuss the test that they just took. This allows you to help guide them in choosing correct books. In order for kids to be succesful with AR the teacher needs to be monitoring what they are reading on a continual basis. It's
important to teach the kids how to gradually move up to higher level books, they want to just jump around and this leads to failing lots of tests. check out the renaissance learning website, there are some supplemental materials that can assist in good implementation of AR, good lucj
