What about an "around the world" passport reading project? Give each student a "passport" made from colorful tagboard and laminate it. Each time a student reads a nonfiction story about a new global setting, he/she gets their passport punched. Determine an amount of punches needed for special treats, awards,etc. As a culminating project, the school could host an ethnic day complete with speakers and food samples. Just an idea, good luck on your project.
