End of day routines

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Christine,
We usually are doing Writer's Workshop right up to clean up time, which is usually 15-20 minutes before the bell rings. Every now and then I have time for an additional story. The kids have homework folders
that go home on Monday afternoons and are returned to class on Friday (or the following Monday morning, if they didn't have time to complete something). We also have Communication Folders for papers, newsletters, etc. that usually go home on Tuesdays (Take Home Tuesdays). I have parent helpers (I'm sure even some older students would enjoy helping you with this at their recess) get
these folders ready, so I just need to hand them out as they leave. While they're cleaning up, I'm supervising and asking for people to help in the various spots in the room. We always end the day with a class meeting with Celebrations, Questions, Comments and Concerns. We discuss what we've learned, talk about any class management issues and set goals for the new school day. No one is allowed to mention specific names during the meeting, but any issues that would benefit the class are discussed here. It's a great way to build and maintain a learning community. Hope this helps. ;-D
