I believe that it takes a while to get used to. I taught second grade for 2 years using it and now in my 2nd year in third grade using it. I love it and I have seen tremendous growth in all of my students in reading and writing. I believe that it may more difficult to use in 1st grade. Is it overwhelming to implement? If so, I suggest you do one block at a time. First graders have not seen it yet, most likely. The children I have have had it two years before I received them. It is multi-leved for learners of all levels in your classroom. Keep at it. It really does work. Good luck!
