I requested before school that my 3rd graders bring an individual tape player (about $5 at Walmart) instead of the binders, markers, etc. they want their parents to buy and they do not need. Every child brought one and they listen to the books on tape I have available at their seats in a rotation by group or whenever they have free time. It works out great and solves the lice problem.
