One of my favorite books is "Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport". It's about a boy from New York who is moving to Arizona. He is told that gila monsters will meet him at the airport, that everyone rides a horse, and lots of other untrue things. It's a cute book for kids to focus their attention on the true differences between areas of the country. It might fit somewhere in your Wild West unit.
