we are pressured to use it with ALL of our first graders and I do not like it. Yes it does help SOME students, but for others it is a nAX hanging over their heads and takes the fun out of reading. There are some really neat books that you can use for your emergent readers..books that are not on the AR list....the students don't read them or have time for them because they are having to read for AR. The philosphy of Reading Renaissand is read an AR book AND another book for fun. Unfortunately that just isn't the way it goes. I spend alot of instructional time helping individual children take the required tests...I feel I test more than I am able to teach! Our schedule is terrible!
