I am a speech-language pathologist and often have to help students like this with organizational skills. I like to use checklists in order to make sure that the student is prepared for class. For example, I sometimes post it to a locker so that he/she has everything he needs to start the day. In terms of keeping a desk clean, I make sure that all papers are filed into a binder or at least separate folders according to subject. Also, you should have him clean up the desk every week and maybe even more frequently as he becomes accustomed to staying organized. You could start out doing it every afternoon. Hope that helps!!
