other holidays
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm not sure if you were responding to my posting, but since I mentioned Kwanzaa, I figured you must be.

I mentioned Kwanzaa as another holiday - not another religious holiday. You may have noticed I also mentioned Chinese
New Year which is also not a religious holiday. However these holidays all fall in the same months and Kwanzaa is often included on websites that target Winter holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah, etc., But it is good to note that all the other holidays are not celebrated instead of Christmas, they are celebrated regardless of Christmas. If one chooses to teach about these other
holidays, then they should do the proper research ahead of time to ensure they are giving the best information to their students.

It's always going to be an area that causes conflict as religion and cultural differences often are areas of conflict between people. But I do think it is good to at least talk about these different holidays and why people may choose to celebrate them instead of or as well as celebrating Christmas.
