I know what you mean. I've tried a number of systems too. You don't say what grade you teach, but I'm assuming elementary. Right now I'm using a book-and-basket system. I have a plan book where I write sort of shorthand versions of my day. I go in time blocks rather than subject areas because our time schedule is kind of wacky. Anyway, I have a set of five wire baskets on a shelf marked with the days of the week. I put as much of Monday's materials as I can into the Monday basket along with more detailed lesson plans if I think I'll need them (or if I think a sub would need them). When I file originals away I write the date of use on the back of each blackline so I have an idea of when I used it last. I still don't really like how I file things away, but that's another discussion!
