Learning Climate
By Misty

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't know where your from, but Great Expectations has SO many ideas. I'm not positive what states have this program. Here are some things I do:
-greet each child at the door with a Hug, Handshake or High five.
-I
play some background music and have an assignment on the board.
-We have a Social Skill of the Week to help us learn to help each other. (Respect/Praise/Encouragement,etc.)
-I use cooperative teams(Spencer Kagan/Cooperative Learning)

*Most imporantly I defined my expectations the first two weeks of school, and I stick by them.
-Respect People and Property
-Be Prepared
-Use

corrct voice level
-STAY ON TASK
-Cooperate to Educate

I will remind a student once and if they fail to meet classroom expectations, I put their name on the board and a set of specified consequences begin to follow. Also I have and auction using behavior points every Friday if there are less than three names on the board. This keeps getting your name on the board as a stigma instead of a challenge.

I hope some of this helps. Mostly I just love and respect these little people and I usually get the same in return
