Problems in Education...
By Alishia

Clip to ScrapBook
I have to agree with what the other posters said. The items mentioned are huge problems. I have no idea what the most important problem facing education is today, because I think it varies from school to school. I have
been a teacher for almost three years, and my biggest problem has been administraton: a lot of administrators (at least the ones I've worked with) have been so long out of the classroom, they have no idea anymore about how difficult teaching can be. They scream about test scores, yet never seem to take into account that teachers today have so much more to deal with then they did 40 years
ago! We are are not expected just to teach, but to be counselors, surrogate parents, cheerleaders, social workers, health and character teachers, ect. I don't mind being all these things for the kids; I feels its part of my job, but people need to realize its hard to get the 3 r's in when Jane can't concentrate because she's homeless, or Joey has so many behavorial problems, you spend your whole day calming him down instead of teaching!

I think the biggest problem in education today is the attitude towards education itself: Many parents see school as nothing more then "babysitters" for their children, take no responisibility in their child's education, do not make the children themselves take some responsibility for their education, and lawmakers who have never stepped foot in a classroom thinking they know what's best for our countries education. That's just a little too much like me telling a doctor what's best to do for a cancer patient!

That's my take on it...good luck with your paper, and congratulations on your award!
