Mary-will try to elaborate on things done at my school. First we decorate the whole school like children's books...Even extra rooms used to house guest readers...We schedule localcelebs like school board members, principals, secretaries, politicians, ministers-anyone who can spend a few minutes to read a good book. These read to a couple of classes at once.Readers either share a favorite story, or we get the librarian to provide good titles...We usually hold a raffle to help meet expenses...This year we raffled an Easter Basket@.25/chance...We raised 1400 dollars!
Cheap prices insure participation. This money allows us to hire professionals to open or close festivities. This year we have Brod Bagert, a children's poet...We also have children performing skits,songs,etc...We started small and it has grown to something special. It takes a committee of energetic people to pull it off...have fun...use your imagination...teachers have dressed in costumeand students...We've had literacy hat day, T shirt day,etc...You may e me with any questions. This year we celebrate last week in March...I'll take pictures to share.
