Ideas...

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 4th, so I don't know how well these will suit first graders, but maybe they could be adapted...

*sorting the beans by color

*adding, subtracting with the beans

*contruction paper jelly beans with spelling
words written on them for practice

*estimation: guess how many jelly beans are in this jar?

*survey the class to find out everyone's favorite kind of jelly bean then make a
pictograph together with paper jelly beans with each person's name on them to show the favorite choices

*JellyBooks: Cut out a bean shape of construction paper and make a few pages to go inside. Students

could draw pictures on the pages or write stories about a jelly bean.

*Make cupcakes or cookies with jellybeans on top

*think of words that rhyme with jelly and beans

*see how many smaller words you can make out of the word JELLYBEANS. It may be cute to cut out large paper jelly beans and put magnets on the back. Put one letter on each bean until you have spelled out the word JELLYBEANS. Then have students move the letters around to make new words.
