"Sadako and the Thousand Cranes" is a wonderful story to read aloud. Then do origami for the art project. Students really enjoy the story and the art.
Another project you can do with about any story is to make puppets of any sort - sock, sack, stick, etc. (I love to use it for "Charlotte's Web" and then they write their own puppet shows.)Good luck!
