    tantrums

I have to agree with the prior poster - there's usually one in every room! This year, I have found that the parents aren't much help, so have had to resort to something that is VERY DIFFICULT for me. I ignore him when he throws his tantrums. I have asked the students to ignore him also, (when he was out of the room I explained how those bad choices that the student is making takes away from their learning and that he needs our help. One way for them to help him is to ignore him) So, that's what we do. Then when we get to an activity, such as computer, phy. ed., art, etc., that he really enjoys, I explain to him (in private) that he will not be able to participate because of the choices he made earlier in behavior. Then I walk away. It has taken five or six times of this, but he is finally starting to get it. Now that he's somewhat manageable, we talk about the two choices he has - to act or react....he's been making much better choices. Like I said, it's difficult. But, for this child it has worked. I hope I don't have to go through it again.
