grouping

I do agree with you up to a point. I have a multiage classroom and I group by ability for guided reading and certain math concepts only. The rest of the time we are working whole-class with scaffolding for all students. However, I do notice that for some math concepts the higher kids get very frustrated and impatient when I need to spend a lot of time with a slower student during a lesson. I guess the better thing to do would be to send the bored students off to practice independently, but that's not always what I'm prepared for. It's at these times that I would love to have the students ability-grouped for math!
