Clip to ScrapBook
We do this in November during Book Week. We do it for only a week. We "bet" our principal that we can read X number of minutes as a center(K-3) in one week. Each teacher then sets a goal for her class. Then we come up with
a total. We send home a letter and slips to cut off every day signed by the parent stating that their child read X number of minutes. Every day our aide totals up the # of minutes for each grade and adds to a bar graph that we create. Sort of like a thermometer. When we reach our goal then our principal loses the "bet" and has to pay up. We've had him kiss a pig and that was fun! This
year we had a "fast food" lunch! He dressed as a car hop, apron, hat, sleeveless Tshirt and jeans and roller skates! He served everyone their lunch on skates! That was a hit with everyone! We asked a local fast food franchise to donate the paper products to make it look as if we really went and got the food. Our cooks cooperated, too, by fixing hamburgers, fries, cookie, and soda, all served in fast food sacks and cups. They really believed! Anyway, it got them excited about reading and that was our goal!
