I'm also a first year teacher. I also have a teacher that enjoys putting down each other. One day, I just had enough. Bullying and teasing is not and will not be tolerated in my presence. (not just my room.. )
I read an article about a teacher that made each student write something nice about everyone in the class, she then complied the lists for each child and gave it to them. Years later, the students saw her and admitted they still had that letter. My idea is kinda a spin off of this.
I make the person that is doing the teasing write 20 nice things about the person they are making fun of. They had | |
to be real reasons.. if they wrote ridiculuous reasons, they have to do it again and add on 10 more reasons. Then they have to read it in front of the class.
The student that was teased gets to hear some nice things for a change and the student that does the teasing, sees how it feels, sort to speak.
It is hard to do this too. Now, my students will assign this to the teasers. They just yell out "20 nice things" and the teaser stops mid-sentence. Hopes this helps. Trish
