mentoring
By mary b.

Clip to ScrapBook
I have both an informal and formal mentoring program at my school. The formal program is "Pathwise." It is very structured and involves tons of paperwork for the new teacher. I'm not so sure I would have welcomed it my first year as a teacher. Our informal mentoring program is much better. More like "how's it going?; here's the curriculum guide; this is how we handle conferences; etc. Much more beneficial for a new teacher. Some teachers have both mentors, some have only one. I'm not so sure how it worked out that way, though. I was an informal mentor last year to teachers new on our grade level. I'm a Pathwise mentor this year. Like I said, it's very structured and often time-consuming.
