HERE IT IS-- YOU DIDN'T MISS IT!
By dbb

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay in posting this address. Unfortunately, I broke out in chicken pox Sunday night, so I haven't been to work this week. (I shouldn't be surprised--- 3 of my students have had it since
Christmas!) Anyway, I snuck in quickly this afternoon to leave some plans and get the valentine info. I am so excited by the level of interest!

1. "Operation Valentine" --This is the address for the SOLDIERS. It is being organized by the spouses of US government officials, Supreme Court justices, and international ambassadors. General Richard Myers (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs

of Staff) and his wife will be visiting Afghanistan in February and will deliver the cards with truckloads of candy (donated by the National Confectioner's Association-- did you know there was such a thing?).
Anyway, your school or class should package all of their valentines carefully together. Make sure to include the complete address of your school. If you like, you may put names (I would advise no last names or photos), ages, classrooms, school addresses on individual cards. The same group did X-mas cookies for the troops and many donors have received thank you notes in return. Send parcels of valentines to:

Operation Valentine
c/o Leslie Hayes
Hayes & Associates
Suite 300
1320 Old Chain Bridge Road
McLean, VA 22101

Your valentines need to be in Virginia by FEBRUARY 11TH. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time for mailing!

2. "NYC RESCUE WORKERS CARD CAMPAIGN"
This campaign includes all the fire, police, rescue, recovery, and medical personnel in NY.
There is much work still being done at Ground Zero, and these heroes can easily get depressed and/ or discouraged. They need emotional, spiritual, and tangible support from all of us, especially as they see everyday life continuing and almost going "back to normal" around them.
Please send a card or note of encouragement, support, and gratitude to these workers doing a job none of us would ever want to do, and hopefully will not be repeated in our lifetime. The organizers ask that you pass this appeal along to as many people as possible. If you are unable to do this in time for Valentine's Day, not to worry-- this effort will continue as general offerings of support after valentines! The address is:

NYC Fire Department
1 Chase Manhattan Plaza
New York, NY 10005

Again, I am very excited by everyone's interest! Happy Letter Writing!
