I use PVC pipes for my bamboo poles. You can get them cut so that your students can manipulate the weight better. If you haven't bought the tapes off the internet any song with a 4 count beat will work. I really like the "Silly Songs" tape.
I usually just clap it out and then have the students who are jumping clap as they come around to help maintain the beat.
I know this doesn't help that much but I hope it helps a little. I can maybe shoot you some of my ideas if you like.

I believe most elementary lessons are mainly just rhythm. My Jr. High and High School kids have some difficulty jumping the poles.
