Clip to ScrapBook
There is a series of professional teachers' guides available called "Four Square Writing" for various grades levels. It starts with primary and goes into intermediate. It is a step by step process that teaches topic sentence, supporting sentences and conclusion. It builds into more complex multi-paragraphs, etc. needed in high school. It is written by teachers who noticed a real lack of skills in this area throughout the grades and needs of teachers for a format to teach it. I do not have it with me at home but you should be able to find the inexpensive paperback copies at your local teacher supply. It should help you with your 4th graders and the boy you may tutor.
