cursive
By Rosalie

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 3rd and really did not like to give up class time to teach cursive, but I did 2 or 3 30 minute lessons a week, using a Scholastic book (sorry, it's at school, it's reproducible pages, letters almost the same as D'Nealian,
which is what our district uses for print and cursive. I used a D'Nealian workbook for weekly homework (3 pages a week, practicing 3 letters at a time). I was through the alphabet in about 12 weeks. I have stopped teaching cursive in class but will reinforce with homework. What I recommend for you is using the book I just bought at Borders (I found it on line first but decided not
to pay shipping on an $8 book). It's called D'Nealian Handwriting (I think, sorry, also at school), the great part is it's all poems written in cursive at the top of the page, with lines below for them to copy. So while they practice cursive they are reading and thinking (hopefully) about poems. I'll start these when I start my poetry unit. I hope this helps.
