when to practice cursive
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
My fifth grade students seemed to be clueless when it came to cursive handwriting at the beginning of the year. Their fourth grade teachers didn't have them use it, evidently.

What I did was have them do it as "morning work." They wrote a cursive letter a day when they came into the classroom in the morning, along with their daily oral language and daily oral math. I gave them a sheet with a letter on it, along with samples of the letter, then they practiced writing it. If it didn't look neat or formed correctly, then I helped the ones who had difficulty form the letters correctly.
