interactive

Mary, There are many ways you could make this lesson interactive. One way that is fun and interesting for the kids is to give them a well-known quote and have them finish it in their own way. An example would be: "Don't
put all you _____ in one _______." For older kids you could use a famous figure's quote. There are places on the web to find quotes from people like Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln. After they have finished filling in their version of the quote discuss the results. The discussion is what makes it interactive.

Another way to use quotes in an interactive way is to have students take

a quote and rewrite it in some way. They could take an ancient quote from someone like Plato and update it. Or they could take a contemporary, yet stupid quote like, "It ain't over till it's over." and rewrite it so it makes more sense.

The trick to making this activity interactive is to give the students a way to interact with the quote. Have them write about it, talk about it, change it, use it in another context. Does this help?
