I teach 6th grade. I believe 2nd grade is too young for this story. I don't know where you teach, but I would imagine that you would have parents complaining. I don't believe I could come up with rational for needing to read that book to young children--when looking at all the great literature available. I have 6th grade students whose parents will not let them read the book because they feel it is against their beliefs AND ALSO some parents feel their children are "not ready" to read the book. I do not read any HP books aloud and never will, but I DO have multiple copies available for my students to check out--this way I'll never be accused of "forcing" anything on students.
