Harry Potter

I read Harry Potter aloud to the 5th grade class I was in for Practicum. I'm in the south, and no parents complained. Still, you might be up against more resistence with a 2nd grade class, and some of the vocabulary in the books might be over a 2nd grader's head. One way to gauge the appropriateness would be to see if any of your students have read the books or seen the movie.
