behavior
By JO

Clip to ScrapBook
We use an economic system that really works with behavior. It is kind of long, but if you want to hear more about it, email me, and I will send it to you. Basically, the kids have paid classroom jobs, but they have responsibilities
too. They have to pay rent, insurance, but they also have to pay money for poor behavior and earn extra money for good behavior. We have weekly mini auctions and two big auctions yearly where they bring white elephant items for the auction. It works GREAT on behavior and the kids think this money is REAL.
I agree with the be firm at first rule. You can always let up,
but it is difficult to go the other way. I have a VERY challenging class this year. I just have to keep remembering that for many of them I am the most positive person they deal with all day and I feel like I spend all day yelling at them. We have an awesome responsibility to these kids to let them know that we are the one in charge and there are certain rules that are not flexible. Hang in there---experience is your best teacher.
