Maybe you could suggest that they take a few days off around each holiday. Also I know it is a pain but if parent/teacher meetings are afterschool or in the evening instead of taking 2 days off of school, that would add a couple of days. Long breaks during the year get kids off track for too long, but breaks are necessary.
