Noise level
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi all,
There is wonderful information on all the topics you mentioned, including handling the noise level in the book, Guiding Readers and Writers GL 3-6. It's written by Fountas and Pinnell and published by Heinemann.

The way we manage this in our classroom is thru peer support and community meetings. Each afternoon, before we start LAB (Language Arts Block) we set a goal or two as a group. Sometimes the goal is working with an acceptable noise level. We've discussed possible supports- tapping someone on the shoulder & using a quiet sign of some type, ignoring or moving away from a person who's
off task and is trying to draw you in...when all else fails, I go to one warning then as soon as the noise climbs to an unacceptable level, I request that everyone move to the meeting area quickly and we discuss the problem. Sometimes I need to convene meetings a few times in a day, and usually after the second or third time, nearly all the kids are tired of being interupted for a group meeting during their lit. conversation, buddy read, writing, etc. Best of luck, ;-D Hope this helps.
