cooperative groups By Robin

Emily - Could you have each group doing a seperate assignment...for instance, let's pretend you have 6 groups. Group 1 - vocabulary - have them look up 10 words or so in the dictionary that they list (as they read) and don't know what the words mean. Group 2 - illustrate your favorite part of what you read Group 3 - Write a letter to one of the characters in your story Group 4 - discuss your reading in your small group (quietly) Group 5 - (another seat activity) - book review/journal of story thoughts, etc. Group 6 - reading next 10 pages of reading pieceThen, have each group rotate...so | | that there will only be one group discussing...this should make it easier on you (I don't know how you keep your sanity with 34 kids! ) with the noise level...and then you could concentrate on other reading/comprehension aspects of the pieces they are reading. Maybe each group would work on their information/assignment for 10-15 minutes. You could split up the literature circles to last a few days during your reading time, and this might make it quieter. Hope this makes sense...if not, let me know....I'll try to write it more clearly. Good Luck!
