I Can Read Books
By Karen S.

Clip to ScrapBook
I guess I'm not really sure which books you mean. The I Can Read hard covers that also come in a book club? Arnold Lobel has a lot of good ones in that club, however, many first grade students can't read those till the the
spring of the year. There are also some early I can read titles that are more suitable for first graders in January- March time frame. I don't know if they still make them but Margaret Hillert had a set of books, nearly 48 titles that only used very basic vocabulary that were not as patterned as guided reading levels. My students begin reading these about November and some will still
look at them.
The first step and step up to reading leveled type books you can find in the stores are also ones the kids enjoy reading. Don't forget to watch the book club orders for easy readers.
