Tall Tale
By LISA

Clip to ScrapBook
I have my fifth graders research one of the 50 states, looking for notable landmarks, state flower, bird, tree, animal, etc. From this information, they create their own Tall Tale character. Their character must be from
the state they researched. Their character has to be responsible in some fashion for the creation of at least one thing from that state. Of course we work on exggeration. (We, too, view a couple of videos. One on Pecos Bill, the other on John Henry.) They draw an illustration of their character that uses 2 8 1/2 by 12 inch papers, taped end to end. The story is writen on half sheets
of paper and stapled in the middle. Their characters are to be as tall as the long paper provides. This project is a favorite among my reading class. Good luck.
