GET TO KNOW
By TIA

Clip to ScrapBook
we used to do this the last day of school--i loved it because it alleviated (??) any fears kids had about teachers (and vice versa!)

i didn't like to just stand at the front of the room and spout stuff, either--we had about
20 min. with the group. i announced that they were officially 6th graders, and that 6th graders took tests ALL the time--i passed out pencils and papers numbered to 30--the number depended on how many kids were coming in--i tried to have 2 or 3 more than there were kids.

i then had them write down the answers to an oral test. ie: which doors will you enter at the start of the day?

will you ever be allowed to walk down the hall without a pass? are you allowed to eat nutritious snacks in this room? what is mrs. newell's favorite animal?

the answers were all "gimmees". after the test, i called on the students (by name) one by one for their answers, if they got the answer right, they got a snack-sized candy bar--occasionally, someone would get an answer wrong, i'd go to someone else and come back to that kid.

fun way to get to know them and let them get to know me and learn some of the expectations for the next year.
