kari, i'm a soon-to-be special ed teacher and have been an aide and substitute for about 5 years. i've been guilty of doing too much for the students, rather than making them do it on their own. i'm learning! i would think it's probably easier to do something for your child than to make them do it themselves (which does not excuse it). i'm not sure if there is a solution. maybe check into your local downs syndrome society or the arc and see if there are parent education classes or other resources. i applaud you for obviously being a caring professional, keep up the good work!
