Kelly, it's not you. Some parents are just insensitive and have not one iota of common sense. Maybe you could say next time (and you know that another parent will say something sooner or later) "My, I'm surprised that little Tommy would say something like that." (Pause briefly. Look really surprised)"And that you would tell me." Don't act defensive, just genuinely surprised. In my years of teaching, I just dish it right back.
Goodness gracious knows that the parents don't hold back. Take care.
