math
By RH

Clip to ScrapBook
I just had to comment on this program. It's shocking (but a sad reality) that your children do not know any of the "why" in their mathematics. IT's really caused from the fact that these students have probably never used
a hands on math programs. All they have done is memorized facts and algorithms. You have to start with a hands-on mathematics program from the beginning of their education.

Another big problem - so many teachers do not understand the processes behind math. They are not capable of teaching the hands on math, because they don't understand the concepts themselves.

I don't think this

is probelm of using a hands on math program, it's a symptom of never giving the kids a hands on math program. Most districts that switch to hands on math usually begin with their first graders and not with all students. teachers have to receive more math instruction and realy understand math as well.

This test stuff stinks, it's up to us to stop it.
