I have observed the very thing you are describing. I loop from 4th to 5th with my students and I have the opportunity to see them as they go through many stages including the pulling away. I call it "middle school mentality" where they are just a little aloof. It's God's way of helping me be ready to say goodbye to them at the after two long, wonderful years of bonding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
