Ken, I am in total agreement about making the distinction between chaos & busynoise. I must have a higher tolerance for noise as I have always figured as long as they are working cooperatively & learning something as they
go along, I don't mind conversation accompanying it. This was a nice class who responded well to the teacher's signal for too noisy (three staccato handclaps) whenever I did feel they might be a bit too loud. Yes, they were quite subdued for the rest of the day (it was about 40 min. till dismissal). I really think she thought she was being a good helper as she winked at me as she left

as if to say her work was done here!
Unfortunately, I have come to see that the principal is the reason the teachers are like this! This is not the 1st time in this bldg that I have had another teacher meddle (tho it was by far the most spectacular incident yet) & they tiptoe around the principal & seem very subdued themselves. The principal will stroll into your room several times a day & not even greet you or make eye contact, just stand there & observe for a few. The office will call & remind you about every little thing as if you were too stupid to live, & woe betide you if you are late for bus duty as they will hunt you down like a dog! One of the specials teachers is incredibly rude & unprofessional (& of course she is in charge of bus duty complete with walkie-talkie & megaphone). My sub lady is aware of this & calls me mostly for the 2-6 bldg, but this was one of those days (2 of them, actually) that they needed a whole slew of subs for kdg screening.
