Painless Multiplication Practice
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Here's what I do that provides as much (possibly more) practice than a worksheet. Students work in pairs (possibly 3 in a group). I give each pair two dice. They roll the dice to get the first 2-digit factor and roll one
die to get the 1-digit multiplier. Then both students multiply to find the product. I usually try to pair up students who are pretty much on the same skill levels so that one won't have to wait too long while the other struggles and is frustrated by trying to keep up. If you have individual dry erase boards or slates, they will even be more interesting than the usual paper or pencil
practice. It's amazing how many problems students will work their way through using the dice. The same number of problems on a worksheet could be overwhelming!!!!
Have fun!
Elaine
