I don't know how they can have such misconceptions. Maybe it isn't as much a misconception as it is they feel that when we as teachers CONSTRUCTIVELY criticize their children (or point out blatant bad behavior) they feel
as though we are criticizing THEM. I don't know...all I know is that to me it is really an issue of basic respect. Like a previous responder said, they probably wouldn't dream of saying such things to their doctor or lawyer. But to teachers, well, that's another story. I am making growth though... when she told me that I "needed to become a better teacher and learn to be more compassionate"
- I told her that I WAS a good teacher and a very compassionate person. I don't care who you are- it's an issue of basic respect. What I would've liked to say to her is--- "you're the reason that perfectly excellent people leave the teaching profession." But thankfully, she could never have that power over me... the kids are what matters.
