Hi Elaine,
What a small world indeed that you are having your surgery the day after mine. I hope all works out for you. I agree with you that the making connections (text to self, etc) should be taught on grades 4 and| above. I think the concept would be too difficult for primary kiddos to comprehend and utilize. I began teaching the connections to my middle school kiddos in grades 6-8 and most of them adapt the strategies within their reading and comprehend them! My confusion in MOT is the first grade teacher taught her kids how to make connections by text to self, etc....They were able to grasp the concept, |

but shouldn t the kids be in 3rd grade before they learn about how to use them. What are your thoughts on this?? Where exactly are you in MOT?? Talk to you soon.
