As a second grade teacher being moved to 4th I know how you feel about leaving a grade you love. Second graders are exciting to teach because they can read and will read everything! I incorporated literature circles where we discussed common books each week. The kids loved it! For reading we focused alot on the parts of a story, like characters, setting, problem and solution. For writing, we began working on different types and even did some editing with a checklist. A great site for you is www.laurachandler.com (?) I believe. She has a wealth of 2nd grade resources.
