Think Alouds
By Jenna

Clip to ScrapBook
I use think alouds as a whole class and it works great! I start out and after doing it a few times we come up with a list of all the strategies I use to decode and comprehend. Then as I cont. the students will check off
which strategies I used and when I am done tell me what I used. Next I ask for volunteers to Think Aloud, this takes awhile for them to get right, and the students tell their classmates when they are done which strategies they used. I next move to pairs thinking aloud, again with the listener id. which stratgies the person used, to finally having students work on their own and writing
on a sticky note and putting it on the page each time they used a strategy. Of course I stretch this out over quite a few lessons! my kids love it!
