behavior changes By Carolyn

This is normal for kids to have good days and bad days. My own class of fifth graders seem to have a pattern of good and bad days. Mondays are usually the hardest for me in terms of routine and behavior. It seems that| every Monday the kids are out of sync with routines, since they have followed all of the routines that THEY enjoy doing and not school routines. It always seems that on Mondays I have to remind them of things that I don't normally have to remind them of: "No, you can't go to the bathroom when I am teaching." By Tuesday, they are back on track again. They enter the room more quietly in | | the morning and get started quickly. They behave better. They are generally okay on Wednesday. Sometimes, by Thursday, they try to be turned lose again. They are generally good for me on Fridays. There are special things that seem to provoke changes in them. One of these is as the poster above mentioned. After testing, my kids went a little crazy. All of that test stress seemed to burn and rattle their brains. It also seems that when it is the day before a holiday they get a little wild. Any changes in schedule also make them crazy. My kids are affected greatly by assembly programs and other special programs. They become louder and more unruly afterwards. I have to work hard to calm them down. Often it's not you, but the day of the week or the events of the day.
