Here's Something to Try
By Teri

Clip to ScrapBook
I began teaching 3rd grade in January and many of my students understood the BASIC concept of a paragraph. This surprised me because it is, as you mentioned, such a difficult concept to learn. The previous teacher had introduced the concept of a paragraph as a hamburger. You have the top bun, meat, and bottom bun. The top bun is the beginning sentence, the middle bun the "meat" of the paragraph, and the bottom of the bun is the closing sentence. I think she even used templates to introduce the concept. The students would write their topic sentence in the top bun, etc. Good luck!
